Protect Yourself Before Investing in Hypnotherapy Training
When considering where to get your hypnotherapy certification training, it’s important to know a few key things before choosing a school.

CERTIFICATION STANDARDS
If you want hypnotherapy skills that will be taken seriously by physicians, nurse practitioners, wellness practitioners, hospitals, wellness clinics, and evidence-minded clients, prioritize attending a hypnotherapy school that:
a) teach an adaptable multi-session hypnotherapy system,
b) uses individualized clinical procedures (not just scripts),
c) provides live instruction with supervised practice,
d) prepare you for delivering tele-health style and in-person hypnotherapy sessions for private practice, as well as in medical and mental-health settings, and
e) has peer-reviewed research that used their methods for scientific validation.
The best hypnotherapy school is the one that meets this criterion and it's the Hypnotherapy Academy of America's 500-hour program that does just that!
The Issue with Substandard Programs
There are many brief, superficial courses and organizations that offer misleading titles or certifications. Some schools claim to provide “certification,” but in reality, they only issue a “certificate” of course completion.
To avoid being misled, it’s crucial to research and ensure that the advertised program is legitimate and not what is sometimes referred to as a "diploma mill."
Choose a Licensed Training Lawfully Authorized to Teach Hypnotherapy
Always attend a hypnotherapy training program that is licensed by a State Higher Education Department as a post-secondary educational institution.
Attending a licensed school offers a level of consumer protection that non-licensed programs cannot provide. For example, in New Mexico, where the Hypnotherapy Academy of America is licensed, the State Higher Education Department requires schools to follow the same refund policies as colleges and universities. Non-licensed programs lack this oversight, so it’s important to proceed with caution.
Why Lawful Operation and Licensure Matters
State licensure ensures that schools meet strict standards.
There are many requirements serious school operators must fulfill for licensure. Requirements like annually submitting for inspection by the Higher Education Department, the course curriculum, lesson plans, learning objectives, student progress metrics, the program syllabus, attendance records, student feedback, business practices, financial review, and instructor qualifications.
Licensure helps elevate the standards of hypnotherapy education and protects students like you.
Also, a big part of bringing hypnotherapy into the mainstream rests in the hands of school operators being willing to put in the work to raise standards in education.
