This is an important milestone because the VA has never hired a Certified Hypnotherapist before, and we are proud and excited that our program qualified them for the position.

Major Breakthrough in Mainstream Acceptance of Hypnotherapy

Our 400-Hour Course In Integral Hypnotherapy™
Has Made It Possible For Hypnotherapy To Be Offered
At Veteran’s Administration Medical Facility

NEWS! In Spring of 2014, we received confirmation that a Veteran’s Administration Medical Facility has hired a Hypnotherapy Academy of America graduate to help military personnel in their pain and rehabilitation clinic. This is an important milestone because the VA has never hired a hypnotherapist before! And we are proud and excited that it is an Academy graduate. The timing couldn’t be better — a HealthDay article on MedlinePlus, (the website for the National Institutes of Health) reported on June 30, 2014, that a new study shows that “nearly half of US soldiers returning home are caught in the grip of chronic pain, with a substantial number of them relying on addictive, narcotic pain killers to help them cope. Among the soldiers reporting chronic pain, 55% say they suffer daily, or are in constant pain.”

To reduce or even eliminate chronic pain, military personnel at one East Coast VA hospital can now receive both individual sessions and participate in group settings where they are taught a unique form of self-hypnosis, autosuggestion and healing imagery, found in the Integral Hypnotherapy™ system. Generally speaking, when those who have suffered with pain experience these methods, not only does their body feel better, but also their mood improves, as does their quality of life.

While improvement of quality of life is a side benefit, it can have an even more important impact. Research has shown (PubMed 2010 Dec.) that there is a clear link between severe pain and depression and even suicide. A shocking and very sad report shows that as many as 22 veterans commit suicide daily. While there are many factors, both known and unknown that contribute to this, in June of 2013, Steven A. King, MD wrote in Psychiatric Times that “Patients may be so frustrated that they are willing to take potentially lethal doses to relieve their pain….” He goes on to say that “Opioids have sedative effects and can impair thought processes, so individuals who overdose may not be clear about why they overdosed.” If chronic pain is one of the contributing factors, it is our hope that Integral Hypnotherapy™ being used by the VA can make a difference.

One of the service women receiving hypnotherapy sessions from our graduate at the VA, came up to the
hypnotherapist after a group session, with tears of gratitude. Amazed that she was feeling so much better, she said, “I’ve been in pain for so many years. I don’t understand why nobody told me before, that I could do this [use my mind to be pain free].” She, as well as the others receiving hypnotherapy, had already been doing everything they knew, to try to feel better. But now, with the simple addition of hypnotherapy, they are in awe at how quickly their lives have changed.

UPDATE!!  Since this page was published in 2014, two more people who trained with us are also working for the VA Hospital doing hypnotherapy sessions for military personnel.  Also, we’ve been asked for names of graduates who could be considered for employment at a fourth VA Hospital.

This clearly illustrates the need for more practitioners who are qualified to meet the future demands that the acceptance of hypnotherapy by the mainstream creates.

The VA requires all patients receiving hypnotherapy fill out an exit survey. The hypnotherapist initially provided her services on a voluntary basis; however, the exit surveys were so positive that she was given a regular paid position. Part of the VA’s requirement was that practitioners have 400 or more hours in hypnotherapy training from a state Department of Higher Education licensed school.

Join us in our vision of qualified practitioners of Integral Hypnotherapy™, Tai Chi, Acupuncture and Massage Therapy being integrated throughout the Veteran’s Administration medical system. Our service men and women deserve the best of care.

This is wonderful news that will affect everyone who has a career in hypnotherapy.

While most hypnotherapists choose to own their own private practice, some would like to be based out of a hospital, clinic, rehabilitation center or even hospice. This sort of credibility is priceless. You can’t get more mainstream than the VA….
