Q. Why do I need professional training in the classroom setting to practice hypnosis or hypnotherapy?

A. While many good text books have been written about the use of hypnotism and its application in the self-help and therapeutic setting, a book can only provide you with an intellectual model of hypnotherapy, not an experience of it. Skilled hypnotherapists will all tell you that hypnotherapy is just as much an art form as it is a science.

There is now overwhelming evidence that says when experiential and academic education styles are combined the student demonstrates higher levels of understanding. This enables the student to make better use of the training. The classroom environment provides for spontaneous question and answer time, live demonstrations, supervised hands-on practical skills practice, personalized support and mentorship not available to those learning from a correspondence course.

Whether you are learning hypnotherapy for personal growth or for professional certification, why settle for an inferior, superficial training? Don't be duped by slick talking sales people who sell hypnosis "certification" by providing a two day class and/or a correspondence course.

Then there is the question of professional certification. The Hypnotherapy Academy of America has made a conscious decision to be approved by the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners (A.C.H.E.). One of the many reasons is that the A.C.H.E. maintains the highest standards of training requirements.

Q. Do I need to be certified to practice hypnotherapy?

A. Yes. After researching other professional boards we have come to the conclusion that there is only one choice for certification as a hypnotherapist, the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners, the following are some the reasons.

  • Highest standards for certification training in the world
  • Over 9400 members from over 20 countries
  • Caused the United States Department of Labor to recognize hypnotherapy as a separate and distinct profession
  • Requires all hypnotism schools to be state approved before membership
  • Approved of by the American Professional Agency who is the primary professional liability insurance provider for psychologists, social workers and marriage counselors
  • Informative newsletter
  • One of the oldest professional hypnotherapy boards in the world
  • Yearly international conference

Q. What is the difference between the Hypnotherapy Academy of America's hypnotherapy courses and others?

A. While there are many good training courses in the United States there seems to be a few patterns that we want you to be aware of. Many hypnosis schools are NOT State licensed, we have been since 1988. Many school curriculums are limited to one or two specific models of therapy.

The Hypnotherapy Academy of America teaches an eclectic approach that integrates the most effective state-of-the-art methods with time tested hypnotherapeutic techniques. This is why the Academy provides 400 + hours in its certification course. We have a staff of four instructors that provide you with a well-rounded, in-depth training. At the Academy you won't just learn about hypnotherapy techniques, you will experience them. Our typical teaching style is lecture and discussion and a live demonstration of each technique. After demonstrations small groups of four or five students are formed and you then have an opportunity to practice the technique with a staff member coaching you.

Then we take you a step further, we teach you how to embody the most important ten traits of effective helpers and therapists. These traits are genuineness, empathy, potency, concreteness, respect, warmth, confrontiveness, self actualization, immediacy, self disclosure.

After years of research we have concluded that with these personal traits you will be a much more effective hypnotherapists. In fact the best "helpers" always possess these traits. Even with higher education, a therapist that does not posses these traits will simply not be effective. We are a world class Academy and encourage you to research other schools and become an educated consumer. We often hear from those who have done so that we are the "Harvard" of hypnotherapy courses.

Q. How much time will it take to get my hypnotherapy training?

A. The Hypnotherapy Academy of America has two different ways for you to attend the course.

Option A: Accelerated training format. In the accelerated course each level of a four level course is taught in one week segments. This means that in just 5 weeks you will meet the requirement for national certification with the A.C.H.E. You may take all four levels in one term or separate terms.

This class is taught two to three times yearly. Advanced level classes are also available. This class is designed for those traveling from outside the U.S. or from around the nation to Santa Fe, New Mexico, as many of our students do.

Option B: Weekend training format. The weekend course class meets three weekends a month for four months. The advanced courses are scheduled into the weekend course. This class is also taught twice a year, one in the fall and another in the late spring.

Q. How much does a professional hypnotherapist earn?

A. Our survey has shown that A.C.H.E. certified hypnotherapists earn anywhere from thirty to one hundred fifty dollars per hour.

Q. Will I be taught how to market and promote a hypnotherapy practice?

A. Yes! First, the best way to develop a flourishing practice is to be a hypnotherapist that gets results. Our function is to provide you with the training to become a highly effective hypnotherapist. Methods to attract and serve your clients with integrity, balance, clarity and confidence will also be taught.

You will learn how to plan and implement your promotional campaign. Specifically, you will learn about writing direct response advertising, structuring presentations, how to cultivate client referrals, practice management and community outreach programs.

Q. What kind of support is available after graduation?

A. After you have graduated, the Academy staff continues to be available for consultation on an "as-needed" basis. Academy director, Tim Simmerman, provides his graduates with free twenty-minute post-graduate consultations that can be used any time within the first year of graduation.

Every January our twelve month "Successful Hypnotherapist Seminar" begins. This monthly meeting provides you with personalized support, developing prosperity attitudes, continued marketing and practice building guidance. If you are not able to attend in person, audio tape recordings are available.

To support the development of your hypnotherapy skills, our eight week internship program is offered twice a year. This class focuses on in-depth case presentation, hypnotherapy skills reinforcement and supervision of your evolving hypnotherapy styles. Year round continuing education classes and newsletters are also available.

Q. When does the next class begin?

A.Classes are held year round. The next 450-Hour Accelerated Format Course begins June 2, 2008.
